What is the Spider-Man Pointing at Spider-Man meme?
Spider-Man Pointing at Spider-Man is a still from the 1960s Spider-Man cartoon in which two identical Spider-Men stand on a street beside an NYPD van and a stack of crates, pointing at each other, each accusing the other of being the fake. The flat, cheap animation and the stiff, matching poses make it look like a standoff between a man and his reflection. The meme is used whenever two people, groups, companies or things are the same, copy each other, or blame each other for the same flaw. It is the go-to image for hypocrisy, rebrands of identical products and two sides of an argument that are secretly identical.
Origin: The frame comes from the 1967 animated series Spider-Man, from an episode where a villain impersonates the hero. It became a reaction image in the early 2010s and got a famous live-action tribute in Spider-Man: No Way Home (2021).
Also known as: Spider-Man Pointing, Spiderman Pointing at Spiderman, Two Spider-Men Pointing.
How to use the Spider-Man Pointing at Spider-Man meme
Each box labels one Spider-Man: the top-left box for the figure on the left and the bottom-right box for the one on the right. Name two things that are identical, copying each other, or accusing each other of the same sin.
Great for two brands releasing the same product, two people both waiting for the other to text first, two apps with the same feature, or a developer blaming the backend while the backend blames the developer. The joke is strongest when the two labels sound different but describe the same thing.
