What is the This is Fine meme?
This is Fine shows a cartoon dog in a little bowler hat sitting at a table with a mug of coffee while flames spread across the room and smoke fills the ceiling. He smiles and says "this is fine," as if nothing is happening. The comedy is calm denial: the disaster is obvious to everyone, yet the dog insists everything is normal. It has become the standard image for burnout, broken systems, chaotic news cycles and teams pretending a crisis is under control.
Origin: It comes from the 2013 webcomic Gunshow by KC Green, in a strip titled "On Fire". The first two panels became a meme on their own; in the comic, the dog keeps calmly sipping as he melts.
Also known as: This is Fine Dog, Dog in Burning Room, On Fire Dog, Everything is Fine.
How to use the This is Fine meme
The top box names the fire: the situation that is clearly falling apart. The bottom box is usually the dog's line, "this is fine", though you can swap in another overly calm reassurance. Leave the top empty if the image alone says enough.
It lands when the situation is chaotic and the speaker is pretending it isn't. Common uses: deadlines, server outages, exam week, budget meetings, your favorite team's season. The more alarming the top line and the calmer the bottom line, the better the contrast works.
