What is the Two Castles meme?
Two Castles is a cartoon of a small boy in a blue shirt standing with his back to the viewer at a fork in a dirt road, a wooden signpost in the middle. The left path climbs to a white fairy-tale castle glowing under a bright sun and blue sky; the right path leads to a crooked, ruined mansion under black clouds and purple lightning. The meme labels the two destinations as the wise choice and the tempting bad one, and the boy as the person deciding. Since everybody knows which way the boy is going to walk, the joke is usually that he is about to pick the stormy castle anyway.
Origin: The drawing comes from the art of "Dramatic Crossroads", a Yu-Gi-Oh! trading card.
Also known as: Dramatic Crossroads, Two Paths, Two Roads, Light Castle Dark Castle.
How to use the Two Castles meme
Three boxes: the first over the bright castle on the left, the second over the dark castle on the right, and the third over the boy at the crossroads. Put the responsible choice on the sunny castle, the fun or destructive choice on the stormy one, and label the boy as yourself or whoever is deciding.
It works for any temptation versus duty: sleep versus scrolling, studying versus gaming, saving versus spending, the safe build versus the meme build. You can also reverse it, making the dark path the honest option and the bright one the polite lie.
