What is the And Just Like That meme?
And Just Like That is a close-up of Tom Hanks as Forrest Gump, sitting outdoors in a cream suit and light blue shirt with blurred green trees behind him. He glances sideways with his mouth slightly open, looking distant and thoughtful, as though something just quietly changed in his mind. Captions start with "and just like that" and then describe a sudden, often unceremonious shift: a hobby abandoned overnight, a mood gone, a goal forgotten mid-step.
Origin: The still is from Forrest Gump (1994), with Tom Hanks in the title role. The phrase "and just like that" is a long-running internet catchphrase, given a fresh push in 2021 by the Sex and the City revival series of the same name.
Also known as: Forrest Gump And Just Like That, Just Like That Meme.
How to use the And Just Like That meme
Use the top box for "and just like that" and the bottom box for the abrupt change. The caption should feel like the end of a story told in one line: something that took ages to build, gone in an instant, or a decision made with no warning.
Good fits are quitting things on a whim, forgetting why you entered a room, losing interest in a game after one bad match, or a whole plan collapsing because of a tiny detail. Forrest's faraway expression makes even mundane changes feel profound.
