What is the Don't Make Me Tap the Sign meme?
In the top panel a weary bus driver from The Simpsons glances back over his shoulder while driving and says "Don't make me tap the sign." The bottom panel shows his yellow finger pointing at a blank sign, ready to tap. In the original the sign told passengers not to talk to the driver. The meme replaces its text with any rule or reminder someone keeps having to repeat, so it reads as an exasperated warning aimed at people who keep asking the same question or making the same mistake.
Origin: The scene is from The Simpsons episode "Lost Our Lisa" (1998), where Lisa keeps asking a city bus driver questions until he points to a sign forbidding passengers from talking to him.
Also known as: Tap the Sign, Simpsons Bus Driver Sign.
How to use the Don't Make Me Tap the Sign meme
There is one box, positioned on the blank sign in the bottom panel. Write the rule you are tired of repeating, phrased like an actual notice: "read the docs first", "no spoilers in the group chat", "pineapple does not belong on pizza". The top panel already carries the threat, so your line should be the rule itself.
It works in community settings where the same questions come up again and again: forums, help desks, fandoms, sports debates, family chats. Stating an opinion as an official rule makes it funnier.
