What is the Elmo Choosing Cocaine meme?
Elmo Choosing Cocaine uses two photos of an Elmo plush at a dark table. On the left sit bananas, a green apple and a red apple; on the right is a big heap of white powder. In the top panel Elmo leans toward the powder with a wondering look, and in the bottom panel he has face-planted into the pile with the fruit untouched. The fruit stands for the healthy, sensible option and the powder for the tempting, bad one, and the joke is how completely Elmo chooses the second.
Origin: The photos come from a short video of an Elmo toy and a pile of powder that circulated online; the original creator is not known. The two-panel crop became an object-labeling format in the late 2010s.
Also known as: Elmo Fruit vs Powder, Elmo Face Plant, Elmo Powder Meme.
How to use the Elmo Choosing Cocaine meme
There are five boxes. In the top panel: the good option on the fruit, the person or group on Elmo, and the bad option on the powder. In the bottom panel: the good option again on the fruit and the bad option on the powder, now with Elmo buried in it. Repeating the same labels drives home that nothing changed except Elmo's choice.
Use it for anything where the right choice is obvious and ignored: sleep versus scrolling, documentation versus guessing, a balanced team versus all-out attack. The bad option should be tempting, not just bad.
