What is the Obama Awards Himself a Medal meme?
Obama Awards Himself a Medal is a photoshopped ceremony photo in which Barack Obama, eyes half closed and solemn, fastens a Presidential Medal of Freedom around the neck of a second, beaming Barack Obama. The edit captures pure self-congratulation: being both the presenter and the honoree. It is used for patting yourself on the back, especially for fixing a problem you created, finishing a task you were supposed to do anyway, or clearing an extremely low bar. The more self-inflicted the original problem, the more ridiculous the ceremony looks.
Origin: The edit is based on photos from the Presidential Medal of Freedom ceremony at the White House in November 2016, near the end of Obama's second term.
Also known as: Obama Medal Meme, Obama Giving Himself a Medal, Obama Awards Obama.
How to use the Obama Awards Himself a Medal meme
The top box is usually "me when I" or a description of the deed. The bottom box adds the catch that makes the award absurd, such as the fact that the problem was your own.
Classic setups: fixing a bug you wrote, cleaning a mess you made, waking up before the alarm after sleeping at 3 a.m., getting a B after skipping half the classes. You can also label the two Obamas directly, as "me" and "also me", for simpler versions.
