What is the Spider-Man Ripped Mask meme?
Spider-Man Ripped Mask is a close-up of Tobey Maguire as Spider-Man after a brutal fight, with half of his mask torn away to show a bruised, bloodied face. His expression is dazed and exhausted rather than heroic, the look of someone who barely survived. The image is used to show what someone looks like after a hard ordeal: a long shift, a brutal exam, a production incident, a family gathering. The contrast with the usual polished superhero image is the humor.
Origin: The shot comes from the climactic battle against the Green Goblin in Sam Raimi's Spider-Man (2002).
Also known as: Spider-Man Torn Mask, Half Mask Spider-Man.
How to use the Spider-Man Ripped Mask meme
The top box sets up the scenario (usually "me after ___") and the bottom box completes it. Split the line so the most painful word lands on the bottom.
The template works for anything that leaves you battered but technically victorious: a 14-hour workday, assembling flat-pack furniture, a group project, a ranked losing streak, a dentist appointment. The more mundane the ordeal, the funnier the battle-scarred face looks.
