What is the SpongeBob Yelling meme?
SpongeBob Yelling shows SpongeBob SquarePants standing in front of a bamboo bench of Bikini Bottom spectators, mouth stretched open, tongue out, bloodshot eye bulging, fists clenched at his chest. Squidward and a large purple fish sit beside him looking alarmed, which makes the outburst feel even more out of place. Online, the image is used to scream a strong opinion, usually an over-the-top declaration of love or hate for something oddly specific. The caption is typically written in all caps and broken across the image so it reads like he is spitting out the words as fast as he can.
Origin: The format took off in late 2021 as a recaption template: people kept the screaming SpongeBob and replaced an edgy all-caps rant with their own outbursts.
Also known as: SpongeBob Screaming, SpongeBob I Love X, SpongeBob Yelling Meme.
How to use the SpongeBob Yelling meme
Use both boxes as one shouted sentence. The top box opens the rant ("I LOVE", "WHO DID", "I HATE"), and the bottom box names the target. All caps fits the face.
The joke works best when the anger or enthusiasm is way out of proportion: someone deleting a config file, a sticky keyboard key, a favorite snack being discontinued. Adding an unnecessarily long list of reasons in the bottom box ("I LOVE PIZZA I WANT TO EAT IT FOR EVERY MEAL AND...") echoes the original rant style.
