What is the Bat Signal meme?
Bat Signal shows Batman's dark silhouette standing on a rooftop at night, cape hanging, while a bright beam throws a blank oval of light onto the cloudy sky. In the comics and films, the Gotham police shine the Bat-Signal to call him whenever trouble starts, and he always shows up. The meme fills the empty spotlight with a word, phrase or object, and labels Batman as whoever can't resist answering it. The joke is instant, uncontrollable summoning: say a certain topic out loud and a certain person appears, ready to talk about it for an hour.
Origin: The Bat-Signal has been part of Batman stories since the early 1940s. The blank-sky template is a popular imgflip version of the scene.
Also known as: Batman Summoned, Bat-Signal Meme, Empty Bat Signal.
How to use the Bat Signal meme
The top box goes inside the spotlight and holds the trigger: the word, sound or event that summons. The bottom box labels Batman, the person who comes running.
It is at its best with very specific obsessions: the friend who hears "crypto" from across the room, the coworker who appears the second someone says "free pizza", the dog who hears a cheese wrapper. Keep the spotlight text to a few words so it fits the oval and reads like a symbol.
