What is the Did You Mean? meme?
Did You Mean? recreates a Google search results page with two blank spaces: the search bar and the red "Did you mean:" suggestion below the result count. The joke is that the search engine "corrects" your query to what it really is, a sharper, more honest or more insulting version. It is a quick way to roast something by pretending even Google knows the truth about it, from programming languages to bands to your own life choices.
Origin: Google's spelling suggestions have been a target of jokes for years, and blank screenshots of its results page became a common edit template. The specific "Did you mean" format is a long-running meme rather than a single viral post.
Also known as: Did You Mean, Google Did You Mean, Google Search Meme, Did You Mean Google.
How to use the Did You Mean? meme
The first box goes in the search bar: the thing being searched. The second box follows "Did you mean:" and holds the correction, which should be a blunt rephrasing of the first. Short is better; it should look like a plausible suggestion.
It suits tech jokes (a framework called another framework with extra steps), sports rivalries, product names, and self-deprecation ("healthy breakfast" corrected to "three coffees"). The best corrections sound like something an all-knowing search engine would actually say.
