What is the Distracted Girlfriend meme?
Distracted Girlfriend is a stock photo on a sunny city street: a young woman in a light blue lace top walks arm in arm with her boyfriend in a grey T-shirt, but she has turned her head to look back at a passing man in a green polo, pursing her lips with interest. Her boyfriend is looking off ahead, frowning, and has not noticed. It is a role-reversed take on the famous Distracted Boyfriend photo and works the same way as a labeling meme: the woman is someone who should be loyal to one thing, the boyfriend is the thing she already has, and the stranger in green is the shiny new temptation pulling her attention away.
Also known as: Distracted Girlfriend Meme, Girlfriend Looking at Other Guy.
How to use the Distracted Girlfriend meme
There are three labels. Box 1 sits on the man in green walking past: the new temptation. Box 2 sits on the distracted woman: the person or group being tempted. Box 3 sits on the boyfriend: the current commitment being ignored.
It fits any tempting alternative: new tools versus the one your team uses, a new hobby versus your old one, a different streaming service, a shiny new game while your backlog waits. The joke lands when the temptation is clearly worse or the loyalty is clearly obligatory.
