What is the Distracted Boyfriend meme?
Distracted Boyfriend is a stock photo of a man on a city street turning around to stare at a woman in a red dress walking past, while his girlfriend in a blue top glares at him in disbelief. All three faces tell the story: his open-mouthed interest, the passerby's glance back, and her outrage. Each person gets a label, so the image shows someone abandoning a current commitment for a shiny new temptation. It turns any trade-off into a tiny love triangle: new game vs. backlog, new framework vs. old one, sleep vs. one more episode.
Origin: The photo was taken by Spanish photographer Antonio Guillem and sold as a stock image on iStock in 2015. It became one of the biggest memes of 2017 once people started labeling the three people.
Also known as: Man Looking at Other Woman, Guy Looking Back Meme, Jealous Girlfriend Meme.
How to use the Distracted Boyfriend meme
There are three boxes. The first sits on the woman in red (the temptation), the second on the boyfriend (who's being tempted), and the third on the girlfriend (what he's supposed to be committed to). That matches the classic order: new thing, me, old thing.
It lands when the temptation is obviously worse but more exciting, or when everyone shares the same weakness. Use short noun phrases for each box. Good topics include procrastination, impulse purchases, hobbies, tech stacks and sports fandoms.
