What is the Frieren Looking Up meme?
Frieren Looking Up is a clumsy fan drawing of the elf mage Frieren from Frieren: Beyond Journey's End, shown from a low angle against a flat pale blue sky. Her silver twin tails, green eyes and red drop earrings are all there, but the attempt at foreshortening went wrong: her chin and jaw collapse into a wide, flat, beige slab that makes her look like she has a block for a neck. Her expression stays perfectly serene, as if nothing is wrong. That calm, wistful gaze on a broken anatomy study is the joke, and the image is used as a reaction for quiet nostalgia that looks slightly off.
Origin: The drawing was posted to the r/Frieren subreddit in November 2025 by an artist practising upward angles. Fans fixated on the strange jaw, and it quickly spread as redraws, edits and a reaction image.
Also known as: Upward Angle Frieren Drawing, Friangle, Frieren Chin Drawing.
How to use the Frieren Looking Up meme
The top box sets up a memory, often "remembering when" or "me thinking about". The bottom box names the thing being remembered. Frieren is a long-lived elf who reflects on the past, so wistful, nostalgic captions suit her best, and the broken jaw undercuts the sentiment.
Use it for small things you miss: when the tests passed, when games cost $60, the old layout of an app, high school free periods, a team's last good season. Gentle wording works better than loud punchlines.
