What is the Karate Kyle meme?
Karate Kyle is a vintage-looking portrait of a teenage boy in a red karate uniform and orange belt, glasses on, fists raised in a fighting stance. Behind him floats a giant, semi-transparent close-up of his own serious face, a classic double-exposure studio effect that makes the whole picture look like a 1980s action movie poster. Captions turn him into an over-the-top vigilante whose revenge for minor school slights is wildly out of proportion. The humor comes from that dead-serious photo paired with absurdly extreme payback.
Origin: The photo was posted to Facebook in 2011 and quickly became an advice animal, part of the same family as other revenge characters like Vengeance Dad.
Also known as: Karate Kid Meme, Karate Guy Double Exposure.
How to use the Karate Kyle meme
The top box is the small offense done to Kyle, and the bottom box is his ridiculous, cartoon-level response. The classic structure is a short "they did X" / "I did Y" pair, with the second line escalating as far as possible.
Keep the revenge absurd rather than realistic: roundhouse kicks through walls, black belts earned overnight, entire cafeterias defeated. It also works for gamers and coworkers, where an annoying teammate or a stolen stapler provokes an epic, wildly excessive answer.
