What is the Peter Griffin Running Away meme?
Peter Griffin Running Away shows the Family Guy dad sprinting toward the viewer down a dusty dirt road, teeth clenched and eyes wide, while a biplane swoops in low behind him over open farmland. Everything about his face says pure panic. The meme casts Peter as someone fleeing a situation and the plane as the thing chasing him, and it also anchors warning memes where Peter flees something he calls the "worst mistake of my life".
Origin: The frame is from "North by North Quahog", the season 4 premiere of Family Guy that aired on May 1, 2005, which parodies the famous crop-duster chase from Alfred Hitchcock's North by Northwest.
Also known as: Running Peter, Don't Do X, Worst Mistake of My Life, Peter Griffin Running, Peter Griffin Plane Chase.
How to use the Peter Griffin Running Away meme
The top box usually labels Peter or describes what he is escaping ("me leaving the group chat"), and the bottom box names the pursuer, the plane, which stands for whatever he can't outrun: responsibilities, deadlines, a sequel announcement. For the warning version, put "don't google X" on top and "worst mistake of my life" at the bottom.
The more ordinary the threat, the funnier the panic. Chores, emails, a teacher asking for volunteers, an ex's new post and inflation all work as the plane.
