What is the Superior Royalty meme?
Superior Royalty is a still of the Volturi from The Twilight Saga: New Moon. Aro stands in the center, hands resting on a balustrade, chin lifted, in an embroidered coat and frilled cravat, while blond Caius and long-haired Marcus flank him in the same powdered, centuries-old finery. All three wear the bored, faintly disgusted look of people who believe they outrank everyone in the room. The meme labels them as any group that thinks it is above the rest: people with an unpopular but proud opinion, owners of an obscure gadget, players of a niche game mode.
Origin: The scene is from The Twilight Saga: New Moon (2009), with Michael Sheen playing Aro. The Volturi are the ancient vampire ruling family in the Twilight series.
Also known as: The Volturi, Volturi Smug, Twilight Volturi Meme.
How to use the Superior Royalty meme
Use the top box to name the group and leave the bottom free, or split it: top box names the group, bottom box gives the opinion or habit that makes them feel superior. The image already supplies the smugness, so the caption only has to identify who they are.
It lands best for harmless snobbery: people who pick an unusual choice and look down on everyone else for it. Food takes, keyboard layouts, reading the book first, playing on hard mode. The more trivial the reason for superiority, the funnier the regal poses become.
