What is the Trade Offer meme?
Trade Offer is a still of a long-haired man in a suit and tie, fingers pressed together in a dealmaker pose under purple lights. Above him is a red "TRADE OFFER" banner with warning emoji, and below that two columns: "i receive:" on the left and "you receive:" on the right. The format proposes a swap, and the humor comes from how lopsided, absurd or suspiciously generous the offer is, delivered with complete businessman confidence.
Origin: The banner parodies trade alerts from sports and video games, set to a jingle from the 2020 NBA Draft. The format exploded on TikTok in 2021, when this suited creator's version became the standard image.
Also known as: Trade Offer Meme, I Receive You Receive, Trade Proposal.
How to use the Trade Offer meme
The first box sits under "i receive:" and lists what the speaker wants. The second box sits under "you receive:" and lists what they offer back. Most good offers are unequal: the speaker asks for a lot and offers almost nothing, or offers something absurd.
It suits deals with friends, roommates, pets, coworkers and teachers, fantasy sports, or proposals to the universe. Lists of two or three items read well. Leaving the second column vague or tiny ("a thumbs up") is a reliable punchline.
