What is the The Great Meme Reset of 2026 meme?
The Great Meme Reset of 2026 template is a collage of 2010s internet icons scattered over a rainbow sunburst background: the Trollface, the Awesome Face, Pepe the Frog, Nyan Cat, Dat Boi on his unicycle, the MLG logo, SMG4 Mario, Barry B. Benson, Hatsune Miku, the This Is Fine dog and a smug SpongeBob. It stands for the half-joking wish that internet culture would roll back from today's brainrot humor to the dank memes people remember from around 2016. Captions usually announce what is coming back, or what the reset should finally get rid of.
Origin: The idea grew on TikTok in 2025 out of complaints about a "meme drought", when people said nothing new or funny was going viral. Creators proposed that once 2026 began, everyone would go back to posting rage comics, advice animals and MLG edits, and collages like this one became the banner for the campaign.
Also known as: Great Meme Reset, Meme Reset 2026, 2026 Is the New 2016.
How to use the The Great Meme Reset of 2026 meme
Use the top box for the announcement, like "2026 is the new 2016" or "the reset starts at midnight", and the bottom box for the specific thing being revived or banned. Naming a precise old meme (rage comics, Harlem Shake, doge, "u mad bro") is funnier than a vague call for "old memes".
It also works outside memes: any group wishing to rewind to a better era, like a game's player base begging for an old patch or a team wanting its 2016 roster back. Lean into the nostalgia, the collage does the rest.
